And another scam has surfaced. Unknown person(s) call a resident claiming they are a grandchild and in jail in Canada and in desperate need o large sums of money in order to be bailed out of jail. Please do not fall for that. If you feel it’s a possibility, then make other calls to verify your suspicions.
Yet another new scam has surfaced. An entity claiming to be a foreign bank sends a letter to people claiming they have a large amount of money left in an account of a person with your last name and the bank desires you to claim to be the account holders nearest living relative so they can release portions of the funds to you and the bank keeps other portions for their efforts. Do not fall prey to this scam.
Another scam is for unknown persons to call and state that you have a warrant out for your arrest. Then they start asking for personal and financial information in order the clear the warrant up. This is a scam; the Sheriff’s Office will NEVER ask you for financial information via telephone.
And another recent scam is emails coming into a person in the appearance of a check for certain amounts of money from well known banking institutions. In the document it asks that you pay certain amount of money as a processing fee. The email leaves a phone number you may call but you only reach an automated answering machine. Please do not give out any information or agree to make any payments to anyone. Please verify all of the information with “known” representatives before making any financial decisions.
A recent credit card scam has arisen. People will call and tell you they can have your interest rates lowered, all they need is your credit card numbers so they can get that started. DO NOT give anyone credit card information unless you are positive of their identity and the information is something you understand and agree with.
Unknown individuals are approaching people in their homes and asking for money to help with funeral expenses for a relative. Please decline their request and notify the Sheriff’s Office.
