New scams are appearing. One scam is for unknown persons to call and state that you have a warrant out for your arrest. Then they start asking for personal and financial information in order the clear the warrant up. This is a scam; the Sheriff’s Office will NEVER ask you for financial information via telephone.
Another recent scam is emails coming into a person in the appearance of a check for certain amounts of money from well known banking institutions. In the document it asks that you pay certain amount of money as a processing fee. The email leaves a phone number you may call but you only reach an automated answering machine. Please do not give out any information or agree to make any payments to anyone. Please verify all of the information with “known” representatives before making any financial decisions.
A recent credit card scam has arisen. People will call and tell you they can have your interest rates lowered, all they need is your credit card numbers so they can get that started. DO NOT give anyone credit card information unless you are positive of their identity and the information is something you understand and agree with.
Unknown individuals are approaching people in their homes and asking for money to help with funeral expenses for a relative. Please decline their request and notify the Sheriff’s Office.
